These yoga-inspired core-strengthening exercises are known as the “Curse Me Core Workout” because there’s a longstanding joke among my students that they curse me under their breath while they practice this core workout. (And now that they practice with me online, they can curse aloud since they’re muted!)
Did lockdown life leave you feeling uninspired like a mindless vinyasa? Maybe a bit unmotivated, limited, linear, and constricted? In pandemic times (or any times), we get stuck in our patterns and habits (samskara) and life can feel like a song we’re sick of hearing but can’t get off repeat.
It can be very easy to judge. We think we’ve got everybody all figured out, but the labels we point to in order to explain who we are often have little to do with core qualities. Take, for example, compassion. Vegetarians, environmentalists, yogis, parents: all of these labels suggest people who naturally exhibit a lot of compassion, right? What then of non-yoga practicing, carnivorous, climate change-denying real estate developers— are they completely devoid of compassion?
